Fort Louvois

Head for Fort Louvois in the Marennes basin!

Located in Bourcefranc-Le Chapus, at the foot of the bridge on the island of Oleron, Fort Louvois is a must-see site in the Marennes basin. Near the campsite La Boulinière, with family or friends, discover the little brother of Fort Boyard with its unique architecture!

With its surprising horseshoe-shaped architecture, with a central keep protected by a drawbridge and a moat, it looks very much like the castles of the Middle Ages.

Through a unique guided or self-guided tour, you can admire this 17th century maritime fortification with its keep, barracks, food storehouse, powder magazine, guardhouse... In the keep, you will discover the history of the fort. A relief map also reveals the fortifications along the coast, from the Gironde to the Charente. At the top of the tower, enjoy the panoramic view of the Oleron coast.

Fort Louvois opens its doors to you from the end of March to the beginning of November. At low tide, you can reach the fort on foot in 5 minutes and at high tide, a boat provides a free crossing.

The fort is located 23 kilometres from the campsite La Boulinière.
