Fort Boyard

Sea walk around Fort Boyard...

During your stay at the 5-star campsite La Boulinière, discover this stone vessel, an emblematic figure of the Charente-Maritime region. Fort Boyard stands in the very heart of the Pertuis, halfway between the islands of Aix and Oléron.

Built to defend the mouth of the Charente, the harbour of the island of Aix and the arsenal of Rochefort, it reinforced the defence system built along the coast and on the islands of Charente-Maritime. It was used as a prison at the end of the 19th century, then abandoned by the army.

It is finally television that will save Fort Boyard. Owned by the Charente-Maritime General Council since 1989, it has enjoyed a national and international media career since the first broadcast of the television programme "Fort Boyard" in 1990.

Many boat trips are organised around Fort Boyard (the fort is not accessible to the public), and offer a wonderful view. You can also take a tour of Fort Boyard with a stopover on the island of Aix.

Fort Boyard is located close to Camping La Boulinière. You can embark from Saint-Denis-d'Oléron or Boyardville.
